MBG Kitchens to Lose Rp6 Million Daily Flat-Rate Incentive

5 hours ago 5

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Deputy Head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Agustina Arumsari, said the government will revise the incentive scheme for Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), the kitchens that implement the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary spending.

Under the new scheme, SPPGs will no longer receive a flat incentive of Rp6 million (US$370) per day. Instead, funding will be adjusted based on the number of beneficiaries served by each kitchen.

"The model will no longer be like the current one, which tends to be more wasteful in its use of state funds," Arumsari said after a meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday, June 15, 2026.

According to Arumsari, the government is restructuring both kitchen operations and beneficiary data to improve the program's management. Incentive payments will also be linked to a virtual account system to strengthen oversight and accountability.

She acknowledged that data discrepancies remain a challenge. Of the 27,877 SPPGs initially recorded as incentive recipients, a review found that some units had received duplicate payments, reducing the verified number to 27,820 kitchens.

"The reorganization is necessary so we can focus on beneficiaries who are truly eligible to receive the program," she said.

Arumsari said the agency's immediate priority is to improve the accuracy of beneficiary data before determining the number and distribution of kitchens needed to serve each area.

The Free Nutritious Meals program, one of President Prabowo Subianto's flagship initiatives, was initially allocated a budget of Rp335 trillion this year. The figure has since been reduced to Rp268 trillion.

As of April 30, 2026, the program had reached 61.96 million beneficiaries nationwide and was being implemented through 27,952 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units, according to BGN data.
