TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology (Komdigi) has reported more than 38,000 bank accounts affiliated with online gambling and illegal online loans to the Financial Services Authority (OJK). This data was revealed during the OJK Banking Forum held by OJK in collaboration with Komdigi and the banking industry in Jakarta on July 14, 2026.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Technology, Meutya Hafid, explained that out of the total of 38,000 bank accounts affiliated with online gambling and illegal online loans, a cleansing process will be carried out before the closure of these accounts.
Based on the data presented, Bank Central Asia (BCA) recorded the highest number with over 7,000 accounts, followed by Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) with 6,400, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) 6,100, Bank Mandiri 4,649, CIMB Niaga 1,363, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) 681, and several other banks.
Meutya explained that the high number of BCA accounts in this data may be correlated with the larger scale of its customer base compared to other banks.
Furthermore, Meutya emphasized that this data should serve as an indicator for improvement for all banks, and not as a source of pride for banks whose names are not on the list.
"If some banks are not on this list, they shouldn't think they have won," she said. She explained that the online gambling modus operandi is constantly changing rapidly, including websites, accounts, and transactions, so banks that have not been detected are not necessarily free from risks.
