TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Fahri Hamzah stated that Japan is keen on being involved in and assisting in the development of homes in Indonesia. This interest was expressed by Japan after Fahri presented housing programs in Paris, France, on April 14, 2025.

At that time, Fahri spoke in front of dozens of mayors from around the world who had gathered to discuss the future of urban development. On that occasion, Fahri stated that Indonesia is open to countries willing to provide assistance in terms of technology.

"Japan is very interested, but with green standards," Fahri said when met by reporters at the Halalbihalal event of the Association of Indonesian Housing and Settlement Developers (Apersi) in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 21, 2025. "And we already have a scheme for assistance for the development of green housing in Indonesia."

Fahri's visit to Paris at that time was part of the process of Indonesia becoming a member of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Therefore, he was asked to explain the government's economic programs-especially the housing program.

According to Fahri, the OECD pays attention to environmentally friendly housing development because this is a standard of developed countries. Environmentally friendly housing means it must not create pollution and must not be carbon-intensive. "It must be green, with good technology," he said.

Although there are countries interested in assisting in the development of housing in Indonesia, there are no projected investment commitments. Fahri stated that the forum at the OECD is more aimed at dissecting thoughts or ideas first. "After that, they will then socialize it to their member countries, which ones are interested," Fahri said.

However, Fahri remains optimistic that the support expressed by other countries after he presented the government's programs can expedite Indonesia's membership in the OECD. According to him, becoming a member of the OECD will be a gateway for Indonesia to become a developed country.
