TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Indonesia revealed that Indonesian users generate 18 million images per day with Nano Banana. The AI image generation and editing models developed by Google DeepMind are available through Gemini.
"We are the second-highest country in the Asia Pacific region to generate the most images from Nano Banana," said Google Indonesia's Communication Manager Feliciana Wienathan after the presentation of the Year in Search 2025 report in Jakarta on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
According to Feliciana, Indonesia also ranks among countries with the highest adoption of artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia. The high use of AI features in Indonesia also contributes to the revenue of applications that prioritize such technology.
Nano Banana is an image generator feature in Gemini AI that users can use to create images through text-based commands. This feature went viral in early September when social media was filled with miniature photos or action figures.
At that time, netizens transformed their portraits, photos with friends, and daily activities such as riding motorcycles and cars into digital miniatures resembling collectible figures. The trend was popular on Instagram, TikTok, and X, and dominated Google Trends searches with keywords such as 'prompt Gemini AI,' 'Google Gemini miniatures,' and 'action figures' for several days.

Ironically, because of its widespread use, Google users can no longer use Nano Banana Pro to generate images for free. The management later updated the rules regarding free access for users without a Google AI package.
When first launched, Gemini 3 Pro provided up to five request slots or prompts per day for free users, similar to Gemini 2.5 Pro. Users could also create and edit up to three images per day using Nano Banana Pro. Now, users can only generate two prompts per day.
