TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has proposed an additional budget of Rp66.1 trillion for 2027. The increase is intended to finance personnel expenses, operational costs, and prepare for the security of the 2029 elections.
Deputy Chief of Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the budget allocation of Rp118 trillion for the National Police Corps for 2027 is still insufficient to meet the needs of the Police force.
"To fulfill these needs, the Police force has proposed an increase to the Ministry of Finance and Bappenas (Ministry of National Development Planning)," Dedi said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
He mentioned that based on the indicative budget for 2027, the allocated budget only fulfills around 66 percent of the Police force's previous needs, which amounted to Rp178.6 trillion.
According to Dedi, the additional budget request has been adjusted to account for the increase in fuel prices and the fluctuating exchange rate of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar.
The Police force's indicative budget allocation of Rp118 trillion consists of personnel expenses of Rp61.1 trillion, goods expenditures of Rp32.1 trillion, and capital expenditures of Rp24.7 trillion.
Of the total proposed budget increase, Rp4.5 trillion will be allocated to personnel expenses due to the change in retirement age limits.
Additionally, there is a proposed increase of Rp20.9 trillion for goods expenditures, as well as a proposed capital expenditure of Rp40.6 trillion.
"We hope that this working meeting will consider adjustments and additional budget allocations based on budgetary needs. We kindly request approval of the budget ceiling or allocation for fiscal year 2027," Dedi stated.
During the same occasion, a member of the House of Representatives Commission III, Martin Daniel Tumbeleka, expressed his party's support for the budget increase for the Police force. The additional budget will maximize the police force's fieldwork.
He claimed that the indicative budget for the Police force in 2027 is still inadequate to carry out law enforcement and public service tasks. "Our Gerindra Party faction fully supports the budget increase for the Police," he said.
