TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -- Indonesia and Turkey inked several MoUs on cultural exchange programs, as confirmed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon in an official statement on Sunday, April 13, 2025. “During our meeting, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, represented by Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, agreed to sign MoUs for cooperation,” said Fadli Zon.
The MoU was part of Prabowo’s visit to Turkey, since April 10. Fadli said the exchange program will include history, literature, capacity building, film, and various cultural expressions.
“For example, artifacts from Turkey can be exhibited in Indonesia, and vice versa,” said Fadli.
According to him, the agreement aims to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two countries. He also sees potential economic benefits to this cooperation. “We must turn these potentials into strengths, especially in economy, politics, culture, and tourism,” he said.
“One of these benefits is seeing more and more Turkish visitors in Indonesia,” the minister added
In addition to culture, President Prabowo's state visit to Turkey also resulted in a number of strategic agreements in the defense sector between the two countries.
Some of these include Indonesia's participation in the development of the fifth-generation fighter jet 'Kaan,' manufactured by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), the formation of joint ventures between strategic defense companies, and agreements to jointly resolve conflicts in the region, such as in Syria, Ukraine, and Palestine.
“We agree that Indonesia and Turkey must help maintain world stability and peace,” said Prabowo in a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, Thursday, April 10, 2025, as monitored from the President's Secretariat's Youtube channel.
In addition to Turkey, during this state visit, President Prabowo also visited Cairo, Egypt, Qatar, as well as an upcoming stop at Jordan.
