TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia is expanding Indonesia's international air connectivity through new direct flight routes linking Jakarta with two major Chinese cities, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The new services will be operated by Chinese low-cost carrier Spring Airlines, which began flights between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) on June 16, 2026, with three weekly services.
A second route connecting Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) and Jakarta is scheduled to commence on June 17, operating twice a week.
"The launch of these two new routes is a strategic step in strengthening air connectivity between Indonesia and China, while creating new opportunities for tourism, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries," Soekarno-Hatta Airport General Manager Heru Karyadi said in a statement quoted by Antara on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
According to Heru, Spring Airlines' entry into the Jakarta market reflects growing confidence among international carriers in the commercial potential of Indonesia's largest airport.
"The presence of Spring Airlines sends a positive signal about the attractiveness of the Indonesian aviation market. It also opens new opportunities to support economic growth, tourism, and business ties between Indonesia and China," he said.
Strengthening Indonesia's International Hub
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport currently serves 69 scheduled and non-scheduled airlines, connecting passengers to 123 international destinations and 70 domestic destinations.
Heru said the addition of Guangzhou and Shenzhen services further reinforces the airport's role as Indonesia's primary international aviation hub.
"We hope Soekarno-Hatta Airport will continue to serve as Indonesia's main gateway to the world and contribute meaningfully to national economic growth," he said.
The airport has been actively expanding its international network in recent months. Earlier this year, South Korean carrier T'way Air launched direct flights between Seoul's Incheon International Airport (ICN) and Jakarta on April 29, 2026, operating five times a week.
Growing Interest in Indonesia
The new routes underscore increasing interest among global airlines in expanding services to Indonesia, particularly through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the country's busiest aviation gateway.
Heru said Angkasa Pura Indonesia will continue working with airlines and industry stakeholders to broaden connectivity and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's aviation sector.
"We will continue collaborating with airlines and partners to provide wider, more efficient, and more competitive connectivity that supports the growth of Indonesia's aviation industry," he said.
