TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stated that Indonesia is opening opportunities for Russian companies to participate in the development of strategic railway corridors.

"Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world, with 17,380 islands and a population of around 280 million. For us, transportation is the lifeblood that unites the nation and connects all regions of the archipelago," AHY said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

In the railway sector, Indonesia still needs significant development of its railway network to strengthen national connectivity and support equitable development.

Therefore, AHY said, Indonesia is opening opportunities for Russian companies to participate in the development of strategic railway corridors, including the Trans-Sumatra, Trans-Sulawesi, and Trans-Kalimantan.

In addition to network development, cooperation opportunities also include the development of railway infrastructure technology and manufacturing, high-speed rail and heavy-haul rail engineering, improving safety and operational standards, developing low-carbon railways, and strengthening human resource and research capacity.

Ahy also highlighted the importance of developing modern and environmentally friendly urban transportation. He stated that Russia's experience in managing public transportation systems, particularly the Moscow Metro, could provide valuable references for the development of MRT, LRT, and commuter rail in Indonesia.

He emphasized that for Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic nation with 17,380 islands and a population of around 280 million, transportation is not merely a means of mobility, but rather a lifeline that connects communities, strengthens unity, and opens access to various economic opportunities.

For information, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) discussed various opportunities for strategic cooperation in the transportation sector during a meeting with Russian Minister of Transportation Andrey Nikitin in Moscow, Russia.

The meeting was part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia, particularly in the development of modern, sustainable, and competitive transportation and connectivity.
