TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and his Estonian counterpart, Margus Tsakhna, engaged in bilateral talks discussing global security conditions, including the conflict in Ukraine, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to support a peaceful resolution through inclusive diplomacy and called for the upholding of the principles of international law.
In his statement, Foreign Minister Sugiono stated, "Indonesia again reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and peaceful resolution through inclusive diplomacy. And we emphasized the importance of upholding international law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, particularly those of sovereignty and territorial integrity."
This statement reflects Indonesia's steadfast stance in rejecting military aggression and promoting dialogue among the warring parties.
Meanwhile, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhna highlighted the complexity of the global security situation, especially the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which he referred to as "war and aggression in the middle of Europe."
He emphasized, "We both want to have peace, and we are supporting Ukraine together with the U.S. in these negotiations to have an immediate ceasefire and start with a real just and long-lasting peace negotiations. Unfortunately, we don’t see it right there.”
Tsakhna also stressed the importance of shared values between Estonia and Indonesia, such as democracy and freedom.
Both ministers agreed that international cooperation and respect for national sovereignty are key to addressing global crises. Although there is no visible breakthrough in the negotiations regarding Ukraine, both parties hope that collective efforts through diplomatic channels will lead to a fair and sustainable solution.
