TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Officers from the Jakarta Narcotics Prison and the Salemba Detention Center foiled four drug smuggling attempts on Monday, June 15, 2026. The smugglers attempted to hide drugs, psychotropics, and other addictive substances in their intimate organs, cough medicine bottles, and hair ties.
The Head of the Jakarta Directorate General of Corrections, Wachid Wibowo, said the four smuggling attempts were discovered nearly simultaneously.
"This is evidence of how the security system, early detection, and supervision across all Jakarta Correctional Facilities are functioning well," said Wachid in a written statement on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
At the Jakarta Narcotics Prison, officers found two packages containing what is suspected to be drugs, weighing 8.72 grams, on a visitor during the inspection at the Main Security Gate. Shortly after, the officers found another two packages weighing a total of 20.30 grams.
Both smugglers reportedly used similar methods of hiding the suspected drug packages inside their intimate organs to deceive prison officers.
On the same day, officers at the Salemba Detention Center thwarted two other smuggling attempts. A 22-year-old female visitor identified as NA was suspected of attempting to bring Etomidate liquid concealed in a cough medicine bottle.
The officers became suspicious of the bottle after finding the content to be inconsistent and emitting an unusual odor. The initial inspection led to the suspicion that the liquid was Etomidate.
In a separate case, a female officer found a package of suspected methamphetamine weighing around 40.1 grams concealed in the hair ties of a 39-year-old visitor identified as MU. The officer handed over the perpetrators along with the evidence to the police for further handling.
