TEMPO.CO, JakartaBank Indonesia (BI) has announced that the usage of its Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has reached 57 million users by the first half of 2025.

QRIS has also been adopted by 39.3 million merchants, with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) making up a significant 93.16% of that total. BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendrata revealed these figures at the kick-off event of QRIS Jelajah Indonesia 2025 in Yogyakarta.

Filianingsih stated that the transaction volume for QRIS reached 6.05 billion transactions, totaling a value of Rp579 trillion by the end of the first half of 2025.

"Through the spirit of culture and innovation, we hope that the digitalization of the payment system can continue to be expanded sustainably throughout the archipelago, while also taking root firmly in the lives of the Indonesian people," she said in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Coinciding with the kick-off of the Jelajah Indonesia 2025 event, BI also launched QRIS Tanpa Pindai (QRIS TAP) for the transportation sector in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. QRIS TAP is a payment method based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, designed to provide a faster and more convenient alternative to traditional QRIS payments.

QRIS is already available for use in several countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. BI previously announced that QRIS would be available in Japan starting on August 17. However, Filianingsih explained that this initial phase is limited to "Indonesia outbound".

"So, Indonesians going to Japan can use their QRIS to scan the Japanese QR," she said in a virtual press conference on July 16, 2025.

The "Indonesia inbound" phase, which allows Japanese citizens to use their country's QR to scan and pay with QRIS, is expected to be available by the end of this year.

BI will also launch a QRIS sandbox trial with China on August 17, which will cover both outbound and inbound transactions. "Hopefully, it can be fully implemented before the end of this year," Filianingsih added.
