TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The People's Students Executive Board (BEM SI Kerakyatan) plans to hold a protest to commemorate the one-year administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The Central Coordinator of BEM SI Kerakyatan, Muhammad Ikram, is calling for consolidation. "I can assure you that our friends in the alliance of BEM SI Kerakyatan will participate and take to the streets in Jakarta," Ikram said when contacted on Thursday night, October 16, 2025.
The Chair of BEM Syiah Kuala University said that the student alliance has not decided exactly when they will take to the streets. They are still discussing it internally. "The consolidation of BEM SI is not yet finished and will continue," Ikram said.
A few days ago, BEM SI Kerakyatan had planned to convey their stance in evaluating the performance of the Prabowo-Gibran government, which marks one year on October 20, 2025. According to the alliance, there are still many evaluations regarding the realization of the Red and White Cabinet programs.
In their Instagram post @bemsi.official, the national alliance's consolidation was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. During the consolidation, they assessed to what extent Prabowo-Gibran fulfilled their political promises. "Is this government really in favor of the people? Is the grand vision promised before starting to materialize, or is it moving away from the spirit of improvement?" stated BEM SI Kerakyatan in the post uploaded on Monday, October 13, 2025.
BEM SI Kerakyatan believes that the upcoming consolidation is more than just a gathering; it is a call for the community to uphold the spirit of democracy, strengthen public participation, and ensure that Indonesia's development is based on social justice.
Previously, the Media Coordinator of BEM SI Kerakyatan, Pasha Fazillah Afap, stated that the alliance has several considerations before deciding to hold a protest. The main consideration is the wave of demonstrations that caused turmoil at the end of August.
"We, students from various universities throughout Indonesia, do not want our actions to be exploited by certain parties," said Pasha when contacted on Monday, October 13, 2025. "Then, it creates a stigma that the student movement is used for destructive actions," he said.
According to Pasha, the student alliance wishes for a better Indonesia through constructive and substantive criticism. Students do not want protests to be merely a street euphoria that harms society. Pasha mentioned that students' aspirations should align with the interests of the people. "(We will) exert pressure on the government that reflects true intellectuals," he said.
