Strawberry Moon is one of the most anticipated night sky in June. The name originates from Native American tradition, linked to the timing of the wild strawberry harvest season. However, the Moon itself won’t appear anything strawberry-like, typically showing warm yellow or orange tones.
Beyond its unique name, Strawberry Moon is widely known as the first full moon of summer and the year’s second-smallest full moon. In Australia, and the broader Southern Hemisphere, it will appear as the highest full moon of the year, as it sits furthest from the horizon.
When is the 2026 Strawberry Moon in NSW?
According to Time and Date, June’s full moon will peak on Tuesday, June 30 at 09:56 AEST. Though it technically peaks in Tuesday's broad daylight, viewing conditions are projected to be best on the night before and the night of the full moon, after sunset.
How to see the 2026 Strawberry Moon in NSW
Not to get too intimidated by its reputation as the highest full moon of the year, the Strawberry Moon is visible to the naked eye.
