TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Special Crime Subdirectorate IV of the Special Criminal Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of Aceh Police (Polda Aceh) has arrested a suspected perpetrator of a Conservation of Natural Resources Crime in Luweng Kutuben Village, Kuala Pesisir District, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, Indonesia. The suspected perpetrator, identified with the initials 'SB', 36 years old, was apprehended on Friday, October 3, 2025.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirreskrimsus) of Polda Aceh, Commissioner Zulhir Destrian, stated that this arrest was a result of the development of a previous case in Southeast Aceh, when SB attempted to conduct a transaction involving the sale of Sumatran tiger skins on July 16, 2025. However, the suspected perpetrator was not present at the location at that time, so the police only confiscated several pieces of evidence.
"At that time, we only managed to seize evidence in the form of a piece of Sumatran tiger skin, 16 claws, two fangs, one finger bone, two pelvic bones, one joint bone, one skull bone, and two mobile phones," Zulhir said in an official statement on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
After the investigation process, SB's location was traced. He was arrested in the Nagan Raya area. Zulhir stated that SB is strongly suspected to be part of a network involved in the illegal wildlife trade that trafficks Sumatran tiger body parts, one of the protected and endangered species.
Zulhir explained that SB will be charged under Article 40A paragraph (1) letter f in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph (2) letter c of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 32 of 2024 concerning Amendments to Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning the Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems.
"SB is suspected of committing crimes related to the hunting and trading of protected wildlife by possessing, owning, transporting, or commercializing the body parts of protected animals, such as Sumatran tiger skins and organs, as regulated by the law," he said.
He urged the public not to be involved in or support hunting, trading, or owning protected wildlife. Zulhir requested that the public immediately report to the police or relevant authorities if they become aware of any illegal wildlife trade or hunting activities. "Wildlife protection is not only the government's responsibility, but also our collective responsibility," Zulhir said.
