TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - YouTube has unveiled a set of new editing tools for its short-form video platform, YouTube Shorts, aimed at improving the content creation experience for users.
These features will begin rolling out gradually in the spring of 2025, as part of YouTube’s strategy to strengthen its position against competitors like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
The update is intended to simplify the editing process and give creators more flexibility when producing Shorts.
Five New Tools in the Shorts Video Editor
As quoted from the Official YouTube Blog, there are five new tools that will be included in this update, including an updated video editor that provides editing features. The upgraded editor allows users to trim and rearrange clips, zoom in on footage, and add text and music directly from the timeline view.
Creators can also preview their edited Shorts through the timeline interface, which can be accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the Shorts editor.
YouTube states that this new feature marks the first in a series of updates aimed at making the Shorts editing process more seamless.
Among the improvements, creators can now more easily add music to their Shorts, with videos automatically synced to the rhythm of the selected track, removing the need for manual beat matching.
Additionally, features such as filters and video overlays will be included in Shorts templates, making it easier for users to participate in viral trends.
The ability to add image stickers from the gallery directly to Shorts will also be available in this update. In addition, stickers created by AI that convert text into images will also be present.
Users can describe the stickers they want to add to their videos, so creators can choose more customization options.
