TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States' import tariffs on countries worldwide are putting pressure on the global and domestic markets. However, there is still room for correction in the plunging composite stock index (IHSG), according to analysts at PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT).
Earlier, the IHSG declined on the first trading day after a long holiday. The domestic stock index dropped by up to 9 percent after Eid al-Fitr and even triggered a trading halt. Equity Analyst at IPOT, Dimas Krisna Ramadhani, stated that the IHSG's drop to a new low level merely projects Indonesia's economic condition in the coming months.
"As a leading economic indicator, the IHSG provides important signals about the direction of Indonesia's future economy, so investors must closely watch the IHSG's movement," he said, as quoted on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The IHSG's decline after the long holiday was triggered by President Donald Trump's announcement of reciprocal import tariffs. The decline in the global stock market indicates the potential for a global economic slowdown that could affect the domestic economy. "If the global economy experiences a slowdown, Indonesia is also at risk of experiencing the same."
However, Dimas projects that the IHSG still has room for correction. He shared four tips for traders and investors amid still-volatile market conditions.
First, do not obsess about floating losses or losses due to share value decline but not been executed. He advises focusing on evaluating mistakes and ensuring that the trading plan is being executed with discipline.
The next tip is to review and evaluate investment portfolios. He suggests separating shares that align with the trading plan from those that must be cut to address losses.
Third, ensure healthy finances. Investors are advised to focus on cash flow improvements. "Avoid borrowing to invest," he said.
Lastly, increase knowledge and remain patient. Dimas believes it is necessary to enhance understanding of technical analysis and market cycles and to be patient when dealing with volatile markets. This can help avoid emotional decisions that may result in losses.
