TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pope Francis died from a stroke followed by a coma and cardiac collapse, the Vatican announced on Monday as reported by Anadolu.
“The cause of Pope Francis' death has been identified as a stroke, followed by a coma and irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse,” said Vatican doctor Andrea Arcangeli in his death certificate.
The death was confirmed through electrocardiography thanatography, the Vatican said, referring to the official certificate issued by Arcangeli, head of the Vatican Directorate of Health and Hygiene.
The Vatican also released the Pope's spiritual will dated June 29, 2022, containing his desires and final instructions for his funeral.
“I ask that my mortal remains rest - awaiting the day of the Resurrection - in the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major,” This is where Pope Francis always prayed "“at the beginning and end of every Apostolic Journey.”
He also wrote that his tomb should be in the ground and “simple without particular ornamentation.”
The Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis, 88. He suffered from various illnesses during his 12-year papacy, with serious complications in recent weeks after suffering from double pneumonia that required him to be hospitalized for more than a month in a hospital in Rome.
