TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Denpasar regional office of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG), warned residents of tidal floods along Bali coastlines, triggered by the Super New Moon phenomenon forecast for June 12–20.
“The tidal flood potential varies by day and hour in each area,” said agency head Cahyo Nugroho in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
According to Cahyo, the tidal surges will not only be triggered by the new moon, but also the perigee phase—when the moon is at its closest point to Earth—on June 15, 2026, which has the potential to increase maximum sea levels.
Based on water level data monitoring and tidal predictions, coastal floods are likely to occur in the southern coastal areas of Jembrana Regency, Tabanan Regency, the coastal areas of Badung Regency, Denpasar City, Gianyar Regency, and the southern coastal areas of Klungkung Regency.
Cahyo also said the tidal floods will likely affect the activities of coastal communities, loading and unloading at ports, salt farms, and fishery activities.
The Indonesian weather agency urges residents to monitor the latest weather information from BMKG's official channels, either through social media @infobmkg, @bmkgbali, and the Info BMKG app, or via the websites bbmkg3.bmkg.go.id or maritim.bmkg.go.id.
