TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi submitted a letter from President Prabowo Subianto proposing a candidate for the position of Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor to succeed Perry Warjiyo. Prasetyo stated that Prabowo nominated only one candidate: BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who is currently serving as the Acting BI Governor.

"So, there is a single candidate, one name which is Ibu Destry Damayanti. She currently serves as the Acting Governor," Prasetyo said at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta on Monday, August 10, 2026.

According to Prasetyo, the government submitted three presidential letters simultaneously, including the nomination for the definitive BI Governor and candidates to replace the Senior Deputy Governor and Deputy Governors. The other two presidential letters concerned candidates for the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and nominations for ambassadors to friendly nations.

The government handed over the three presidential letters to House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and coordinated the matter with House Speaker Puan Maharani. Prasetyo stated that the subsequent process would rest with the legislative body. "That is what we can report. We held a coordination meeting and officially submitted the presidential letters to the DPR; we now leave the mechanism to the House of Representatives, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," said the Gerindra Party politician.

Perry Warjiyo's Resignation

Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti was appointed Acting BI Governor following Perry Warjiyo's resignation from the post. This decision followed a Board of Governors meeting on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The interim appointment is in accordance with Law No. 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as most recently amended by Law No. 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

Destry Damayanti stated that Perry Warjiyo resigned voluntarily for personal reasons. "Regarding saudara Perry Warjiyo's voluntary resignation from the position of Bank Indonesia Governor for personal reasons on July 25, 2026," Destry said during a press conference at the Bank Indonesia headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026.

She emphasized that Bank Indonesia would continue to carry out its duties and authority to safeguard the stability of the rupiah, maintain payment system stability, and help preserve financial system stability to support sustainable economic growth.

Destry Damayanti also stated that Bank Indonesia would continue to prioritize good governance and professionalism in executing its mandate. According to her, the central bank would maintain synergy and coordination with the government in accordance with their respective duties and authority.
