TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has responded to the emerging "Reformasi Jilid II" (Second Reform Movement), which is being organized by student groups from several universities across the country.
Listyo urged students to express their aspirations through peaceful and well-organized activities.
“We appeal to all parties to ensure that any activities are carried out in a constructive manner,” Listyo told reporters at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
He said demonstrations related to the Reformasi Jilid II movement should be conducted in a way that maintains public order and security. The police, he added, would continue to safeguard citizens' right to express their views while ensuring that public activities remain conducive.
“That is our shared objective in the current situation,” he said.
The movement gained attention after student groups affiliated with the Indonesian Student Executive Boards Alliance (BEM SI) in Central Java issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding stronger measures to support the rupiah exchange rate.
The students gave the government 18 days to improve the currency's performance and voiced their demands during a protest outside Bank Indonesia's Central Java representative office in Semarang on June 5.
BEM SI warned that if the government fails to respond within the deadline, it will organize a nationwide demonstration under the banner of "Reformasi Jilid II."
“If the demands are not met, we will hold a demonstration under the title Reformasi Jilid II,” the group said in a joint social media post with Story Rakyat.
