TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Netflix is currently testing a show search feature using a smart technology owned by OpenAI. With this update, searching for movies is not only based on genre or actor's name, but can also be adjusted according to the user's mood.
Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou said the trial is still in the early stages. "We are truly in the learning and listening stage to develop this beta version," said Zhou, quoted from The Verge on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
This new service is being tested through opt-in, meaning it is first used by a number of volunteer iOS users in Australia and New Zealand. Zhou said that the testing will be expanded to the United States in the coming weeks or months.
Netflix has no plans to test the beta version on operating systems other than iOS. Although there has been confirmation from Netflix, the management of OpenAI has not responded to this news.
Netflix's Chief Executive Officer Greg Peter mentioned that the entity has been studying search systems and artificial intelligence for the past 20 years. In an interview session with The Verge, he mentioned that the management always thinks innovatively in technical matters. "How do we use it to serve creators, enabling them to tell stories in a more interesting way," he said.
Netflix is widely known as a paid online streaming service. Netflix provides various types of films and content. Its user categories are diverse, ranging from children to adults.
