
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Liverpool striker and Portuguese National Team player Diogo Jota is reported to have passed away in a car accident in Spain.
According to Marca report, the 28-year-old football player was traveling with his brother, Andre Jota, 26 years old, who is also a footballer. The car they were in veered off the road on the A-52 highway in Zamora Province, Spain.
The Spanish outlet also shared a tweet from Zamora’s official authorities confirming that a traffic accident occurred on the A-52 near Palacios de Sanabria, resulting in the deaths of two men aged 28 and 26.
The tragic news comes just two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso in a ceremony held in Porto, Portugal. The wedding was publicly celebrated through social media, drawing warm reactions from fans.
Jota was a key player for the Portuguese national team and helped them win the UEFA Nations League twice. He scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for his country.
During his time with Liverpool, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and English League Cup, and also played in the 2021–2022 Champions League final, where Liverpool lost to Real Madrid.
