TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian wushu athlete Seraf Naro Siregar secured the first medal for the Indonesian contingent at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by winning bronze in the men's changquan event at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, Japan, on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Naro finished third out of 21 competing athletes, posting a score of 9.720 points.
"First of all, I offer my gratitude to the Lord Jesus for protecting and guiding me throughout my journey in preparing for the Asian Games," Naro said after the competition.
Competing first, Naro executed his routine smoothly, immediately setting a high benchmark for his rivals.
He received scores of 5.00 for quality of movement, 2.720 for overall performance, and 2.00 for degree of difficulty, resulting in a total score of 9.720.
This score put Naro in the lead initially; he remained at the top of the standings even after the next six athletes had finished their performances.
However, two athletes from Macau who competed later managed to overtake Naro. Kuong Chi Hin scored 9.723 to claim the gold medal, while Song Chi Kuan scored 9.720 to take the silver.
For Naro, the medal holds great significance, as the Asian Games is one of the most prestigious events that athletes dream of participating in.
"This means everything to me because we know the Asian Games is no ordinary competition for an athlete," Naro said.
"For any athlete, simply competing here is a dream, let alone winning a medal."
He noted that the bronze medal represents a crucial part of his career journey, as he has dedicated his life to preparing for this major event.
"So, the meaning of this medal is essentially my entire career. I have dedicated my whole life solely to this major event," Naro said. The medal at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 further adds to Naro's collection of achievements at international multi-sport events. Previously, he won a bronze medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games in the combined daoshu and gunshu event.
Naro also secured a silver medal at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, in the men's combined changquan-daoshu-gunshu event.
