TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that his nation is currently undergoing a transformation. The Indonesian government is committed to bolstering its economy and establishing a governance system free from corruption. He emphasized that this transformation is aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people.
He also invited Turkiye to collaborate in the endeavor of building a civilization that prioritizes the welfare of all people. According to him, the construction of such a civilization needs a collective effort to ensure that all nations can live with improved standards of living, greater security, and lasting peace, free from oppression.
"I am confident that Turkiye and Indonesia can achieve the best outcomes for the people of the world," Prabowo conveyed in his address to members of the Turkish Parliament in Ankara, which was monitored via the official YouTube channel of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye (TBMM- Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Prabowo highlighted that the current global situation is marked by considerable uncertainty. He noted the prevalence of oppression exerted by powerful nations against weaker ones. In this context, he observed that Turkiye has emerged as a global leader in advocating for oppressed communities, citing the Palestinian people as an example.
Therefore, Prabowo affirmed Indonesia's commitment to working in concert with Turkiye to defend those facing oppression. "Turkiye remains steadfast. We recognize the need to stand alongside Turkiye in the defense of these people," he stated.
In a separate communication, Philips Vermonte, the spokesperson for the Presidential Communications Office, clarified that President Prabowo's visit to Turkiye was at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, following President Erdogan's visit to Indonesia in February 2025.
"During the last meeting in Jakarta, the Indonesian people extended a warm welcome to President Erdogan. President Prabowo personally greeted him at the airport, accompanied him to his hotel, and escorted him back to the airport upon his departure," Philips Vermonte detailed in an official statement released in Jakarta on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The current state visit of President Prabowo to meet with President Erdogan in Turkiye is aimed at further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations. This visit also underscores Indonesia's commitment to promoting global peace, including efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
"As middle-power nations with majority Muslim populations, both countries hold a strategic role in continuing to foster the spirit of peace, particularly concerning the situation in Palestine," Philips emphasized.
Moreover, he indicated that President Prabowo's visit is expected to encourage greater economic cooperation with Turkiye. He noted that significant opportunities remain to enhance trade relations between the two countries, aligning with the mutual commitment to increase the value of trade in a balanced manner, with the goal of reaching US$10 billion.
