TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong (KJRI Hong Kong) confirmed the safety of 129 Indonesian nationals following a major fire at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
One Indonesian national remains missing and continues to be actively searched for by emergency crews.
“The estimated number of Indonesian nationals living in the apartment complex is around 140. A total of 129 have been confirmed safe,” the consulate said in a written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to KJRI Hong Kong, nine Indonesian nationals have been confirmed dead, while one person is currently receiving hospital care after sustaining serious injuries during evacuation.
Local authorities are continuing search and identification operations in the severely affected areas, warning that the number of casualties may rise as the process continues, especially in blocked or unstable sections of the building.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated on Sunday that KJRI Hong Kong has formed a family coordination team to assist with the repatriation of victims’ remains.
The Indonesian government is also maintaining close communication with Hong Kong authorities to ensure the handling of the tragedy proceeds smoothly and respectfully.
The team will ensure timely communication and support for affected families, including updates on victim identification, repatriation procedures, and necessary administrative arrangements.
