TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Garuda Indonesia President Director, Glenny Kairupan, revealed several strategic steps the company will take to improve performance in 2026. He stated that the company will focus on maintenance to encourage a gradual recovery in production capacity.
"Through capital injection funding support at the end of 2025, Garuda Indonesia targets to operate at least 68 serviceable aircraft by the end of 2026, while Citilink targets 50 serviceable aircraft by the end of 2026," Glenny said in a written statement, quoted on Friday, March 20, 2026.
For information, Garuda received a capital injection of Rp23.67 trillion from Danantara in 2025.
Glenny explained that the optimization of serviceable aircraft in 2026 will be strengthened through the projected acceleration of several strategic fleet maintenance initiatives. This initiative includes heavy maintenance airframe checks on its Boeing 737-800NG, Boeing 777-300ER, and Airbus A330 fleets.
In addition, the company also conducts overhauls and shop visits on key components such as engines, Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), and landing gear to ensure optimal fleet performance.
Last year, the company, codenamed GIAA, posted a net loss of US$319.39 million, or approximately Rp5.4 trillion. Its consolidated operating revenue also fell 5.9 percent to US$319.39 million, or approximately Rp 5.4 trillion.
According to Glenny, the company's declining performance was influenced by limited production capacity in the first half of 2025, with a number of unserviceable aircraft awaiting scheduled maintenance.
As part of its long-term transformation, Glenny said, the company will also implement 11 key strategic initiatives. These strategic initiatives include route network optimization, fleet capacity enhancement, platform digital transformation, revenue management excellence, and enhanced cargo monetization.
Furthermore, additional revenue optimization, strategic alliance formation, cost management enhancement, operational digitalization, organizational structure synergy, and customer experience enhancement.
"With various transformation steps being implemented in a disciplined and measured manner, Garuda Indonesia is positioning 2026 as the year to accelerate the company's performance recovery," said Glenny Kairupan, concluding that Garuda Indonesia is optimistic that it can accelerate its steps towards a more solid turnaround phase.
