TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - French President Emmanuel Macron disclosed a discussion with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, April 5, 2025, concerning the collaborative preparation for a conference on Gaza, scheduled for June. The initiative aims to foster peace in the Middle East and contribute to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
"We will jointly prepare for the conference on Gaza, which will be held in June," Macron said in Indonesian in a post on his official X account, @EmmanuelMacron, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Furthermore, he articulated that he and Prabowo agreed to reinforce cooperative ventures across various sectors in the future. This collaborative effort seeks to cultivate a robust economic partnership between France and Indonesia.
"France and Europe want to build the future economy together with Indonesia by creating resilient value chains, especially in the critical metals sector, and supporting the energy transition," he affirmed.
Macron indicated that this enhanced cooperation will be a focal point during his forthcoming state visit to Indonesia at the end of May. The cooperation will encompass the domains of defense, economy, science, and culture.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, alongside French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, previously confirmed President Macron's planned visit to Indonesia in May 2025.
Macron's anticipated visit constituted a principal agenda item in the bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers, held at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
"We discussed the preparation for the implementation of the visit, while also outlining priority steps to enhance bilateral relations and capitalize on the outcomes of the visit," Sugiono told reporters.
Sugiono also delineated several key areas of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and France discussed during the meeting, including energy transition, food security, defense, digital transformation, and cultural relations.
He expressed aspiration that the collaboration between Indonesia and France would yield tangible benefits for the citizens of both nations. He also expressed his hope that the 75-year bilateral relationship between Indonesia and France will continue to strengthen, particularly through President Macron’s visit to Indonesia.
