TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) at the Ministry of Finance claimed that they are continuously making efforts to improve the performance of the Core Tax Administration System (Coretax). Director of Taxation Counseling, Services, and Public Relations of DJP, Dwi Astuti, disclosed that the improvements to Coretax include enhancing the performance of the system's registration, invoice recording, and tax payment.

"From the end of March to April 17, 2025, DJP has also made several system enhancements in an effort to improve Coretax's performance," Dwi said in an official statement on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Performance Issues with Coretax

Within the first month of Coretax operation, the new tax administration system launched by President Prabowo on December 31, 2025, experienced glitches during working hours, hindering the performance of workers in the tax sector.

These glitches have prompted numerous complaints from taxpayers who have difficulty accessing the system. Taxpayers are also concerned because difficulties in accessing Coretax can result in delayed tax payments and sanctions for delayed invoice issuance.

"Sometimes it can only be accessed in the middle of the night, or even in the early hours," said Ilham Ardiansyah, a senior tax staff member at a technology company in South Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. These issues have caused widespread confusion because at the end of last year, the government suddenly announced a postponement in the application of the 12 percent value-added tax or VAT. Glitches in Coretax have impeded invoice issuance for days.

Dwi explained that the issue was caused by data synchronization that took place and the high volume of Coretax access by users simultaneously. Issues with Coretax are reflected in the state revenue realization. The Ministry of Finance reported that the tax revenue realization as of February 2025 was only Rp 187.8 trillion, a 30.2 percent decrease compared to the same period the previous year.

Improving Coretax Performance

DJP has made improvements to the registration side of Coretax. Firstly, Coretax has made improvements to the matching of the Personal Identification Number (NIK) and Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) to make them more stable and responsive. Other improvements include adjusting the NPWP registration process for various types of taxpayers, including foreigners and legal entities.

Furthermore, DJP has made adjustments to the menu for the confirmation of taxable companies (PKP), account activation requests, taxpayer data changes, and the process of appointing tax collectors. DJP has also fixed bugs in the completion and downloading of document requirements so that the registration process runs smoothly. Bug fixes were made so that the tax invoice does not appear in the buyer's input tax list.

DJP has also improved Coretax by adjusting the validation and tax invoice issuance process, including tax invoice code 07, return notes, and advance return money. In addition, refinements were also made to tax period adjustments, supporting documents, and the PDF button access so that only documents with valid status could be downloaded. There were also adjustments made to the rounding of invoice transaction values.

Further improvements were made with adjustments to the import proof cut scheme, payment data validation including the Business Place Identification Number, adjustments to special payment options for government agencies, and bug fixes for the monthly issuance of permanent employee cut documents.

Tax payments in the system also underwent improvements in the process of transfer requests, refunds, and tax installment reductions. Lastly, there were refinements in the service for requesting replacement or cancellation of tax documents, as well as the validation of taxpayers with special characters.
