TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The process of identifying the last body of the 13 victims of the ammunition explosion that belongs to the Indonesian Army (TNI) in Sagara Village, Cibalong District, Garut Regency, West Java was completed on Tuesday night, May 13, 2025.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), tonight, the last body has been identified," said Nurdin Yana, the Secretary of the Garut Regency, to reporters at the Pameungpeuk Regional General Hospital (RSUD) on Tuesday night, May 13, 2025 as quoted from Antara.
Nurdin explained that the identification team from RSUD Pameungpeuk, TNI, and the police had identified the 13 victims of the ammunition explosion in Cibalong. All identified bodies have been handed over to the families of the victims for burial.
He explained that since Monday, May 12, 2025, the joint team immediately identified the 13 explosion victims by matching their identities until it was finally confirmed that the identification was complete.
On Monday night, identification was carried out on nine victims, four TNI personnel, and five civilians.
"On behalf of the government, we express our gratitude to the TNI, the police, the community, and the Pameungpeuk Hospital," he said.
He added that the government, as stated by the Governor of West Java, provided compensation of Rp 50 million to each family of the victims, and there was also assistance from the police and the TNI.
"The Governor provided a donation of Rp 50 million to each family, and also the Pangdam and the Kapolda," he said.
The explosion victims included nine civilians, mostly from the Pameungpeuk and Cibalong Districts, and some from the Singajaya District, while the TNI members were from outside Garut, one of whom was from Bandung.
The process of disposing expired ammunition belonging to the Indonesian Army in Sagara Village, Cibalong District, Garut on Monday, May 12, 2025 ended in tragedy. A total of 13 people died, consisting of TNI personnel responsible for the disposal and nine civilians.
