BMKG Weather Forecast: Cloudy Skies Persist Across Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast cloudy weather across the majority of Indonesia today, Friday, September 4, 2026.

BMKG forecaster Wahyu Annisa, in a YouTube broadcast monitored from Jakarta on Friday, said in Sumatra, residents of Bengkulu and Bandar Lampung must beware of smoke, while Palembang residents will see hazy air today. 

"Jambi and Pangkal Pinang are forecast to be partly cloudy, Tanjung Pinang is cloudy, while Pekanbaru and Banda Aceh will have thick clouds," Wahyu said.

Meanwhile, BMKG forecast light rain in Medan and Padang.

Turning to Java, the weather in Jakarta and Yogyakarta is expected to be partly cloudy, while Bandung is cloudy, and Surabaya and Semarang will be shrouded in thick cloud cover. 

"Light rain has the potential to fall in the Serang area," Wahyu said.

The weather forecast in Kalimantan pointed to hazy air in Pontianak, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda. Meanwhile, smoke or haze is predicted to affect Banjarmasin. Light rain is likely to fall in Tanjung Selor.

Moving to Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather in Mataram could be hazy, while Denpasar will be cloudy. The Kupang region is forecast to have thick clouds.

In Sulawesi, the cities of Makassar, Gorontalo, and Manado will be seeing a sunny day with clouds scattered throughout, while Kendari will be cloudy. Light rain is expected to fall in Palu and Mamuju.

Meanwhile, in Maluku and North Maluku, Ambon is forecast to be cloudy, while Ternate will have thick clouds.

Moving to Papua, BMKG forecasts cloudy skies over Manokwari and Merauke, while thick cloud cover will loom over Sorong. 

"Light rain is predicted to fall in Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya," said Annisa.

BMKG also warned of the potential for moderate to heavy rain in North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and northern Papua.
