TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), which operates the free nutritious meal program, has closed 833 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs) across the country.
"We have suspended 833 kitchens today," said BGN Head Sudaryono at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026.
In detail, the kitchens that have been suspended include 98 SPPG kitchens in Sumatra; 424 SPPG kitchens across Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and Papua; and 311 SPPG kitchens in Java and Madura.
He confirmed that these kitchens will not be paid since they have been proven to have violated procedures, which range from unhygienic food and cases of food poisoning as well as poor food quality and Wastewater Treatment Plants (IPAL).
"This is unlike the kitchens we suspended before. They were still being paid, but it's not the case now since they conduct violations," said Sudaryono.
In addition to closing hundreds of violating SPPGs, BGN also suspended 261 non-civil servant employees, consisting of 224 non-civil servant employees and 37 experts.
Furthermore, his office also imposed severe disciplinary sanctions on nine civil servants who committed serious violations, while 39 others received minor disciplinary sanctions.
Serious breaches are punished by dismissal, according to Sudaryono, while civil servants with minor violations are punished by being transferred or being demoted, as well as given warnings and other administrative sanctions.
Sudaryono emphasized that under his leadership, BGN strives to become free from corrupt behavior.
"It's important for us to ensure that civil servants in each kitchen work optimally and as clean as possible while ensuring the menu we serve is good," he said.
