TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Washington Police stated that a suspect has been apprehended after firing shots at a dinner attended by the US President Donald Trump. The suspect was armed with "a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives," said police chief Jeff Carroll, as quoted from France 24 on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
Trup had to be evacuated from the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents' Dinner with journalists on Saturday local time after shots were fired inside the venue.
Jeff Carrol said the suspect "charged a US Secret Service checkpoint" before being tackled to the ground and handcuffed, according to The Guardian.
The suspect appeared to have been a "lone" gunman, and initial information indicates that the suspect was a hotel guest.
Anadolu reported that the suspect told authorities that he intended to target "administration officials," but did not specify Trump by name.
Meanwhile, multiple news outlets reported that the suspect was identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California, who worked as a teacher.
The Associated Press reported that he was a master's graduate, tutor and amateur video game developer, based on the LinkedIn profile that appeared to match his name and photo.
He had reportedly been working for the past six years as a tutor helping aspiring college students and had developed a video game about molecular chemistry available on the Steam platform.
Citing DW, federal campaign finance records showed that the suspect had donated $25 (€21) to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in 2024.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated that the suspect will appear in court on Monday.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were unharmed after the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday, April 25, in Washington, D.C.
The Secret Service mentioned that the incident occurred at the security checkpoint inside the event venue, near the entrance to the main ballroom. In a statement from the White House after the incident, Trump said that a Secret Service agent wearing a bulletproof vest was in good condition. He mentioned that the agent was fine after being shot, the bullet being stopped by the protective gear.
Reported by Anadolu, Trump, along with several high-ranking officials, including Vice President JD Vance, was promptly evacuated by Secret Service agents from the main table as part of the security measures. They were then reported to be in a safe condition.
