TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said that he respects public oversight measures taken by credible institutions, as well as the public and media input. He also respects the shadow cabinet initiative undertaken by young people.
"I respect every survey result, study, and analysis presented by credible institutions. I also respect every form of public participation, including observers, academics, media personnel, and youth initiatives in providing input and forming a shadow cabinet," said Vice President Gibran Rakabuming in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by ANTARA.
He stated that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to express their opinions and criticisms and participate in overseeing the government. All of these are essential for a healthy democratic life.
"Therefore, as long as public oversight is delivered objectively, data-based, and solution-oriented, I view it as good evaluation material for the governance process," Vice President Gibran added.
This was done, according to Gibran, because the government's job is to work better, listen more, and ensure that every policy truly benefits the community.
The Vice President emphasized that with this spirit, the quality of governance will continue to improve, Indonesian democracy will mature, and public trust can be maintained through real work, openness, and accountability.
Previously, a civil society coalition announced the formation of a Shadow Cabinet to oversee policies taken by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming.
On July 17, 2026, the People's Coalition announced the Shadow Cabinet initiative, which includes 15 individuals ranging from academics to activists to researchers. Each of these figures will oversee a specific sector, similar to the Red and White Cabinet.
