TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers associated with the Online Ojek Drivers Association Garda Indonesia will hold a protest in Jakarta, Indonesia, today.

The General Chair of Garda Indonesia, Raden Igun Wicaksono, stated that the protesters would conduct a long march from the Garda headquarters at Jalan Kodam Raya No. 6, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, starting at 09:00 WIB (Western Indonesia Time). The demonstration route will pass by the State Palace, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"The majority of online drivers will collectively turn off their applications as a form of solidarity. We urge the people of Jakarta to use alternative modes of transportation," Igun said when contacted on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

According to Igun, National Transportation Day is the right moment to voice disappointment with the leadership of Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwaghandi. He believes that Dudy is more biased towards the transportation application companies than the drivers, even acting as a "spokesperson for the applicators."

"There has been a vendor-driven policy, where the policies of the Minister of Transportation are controlled by online transportation application companies," Igun stated.

In today's demonstration, Garda Indonesia presented seven main demands:

  • Urging the Online Transportation Bill to be included in the 2025-2026 National Legislation Program.
  • Setting a maximum 10% cap on deductions by the applicators.
  • Creating specific regulations regarding delivery and food delivery rates.
  • Conducting an investigative audit on the additional 5% deduction by applicators.
  • Eliminating programs such as Aceng, Slot, Multi Order, Paid Members, and others deemed detrimental to driver partners.
  • Urge the President to dismiss the Minister of Transportation.
  • Urging the Chief of National Police to thoroughly investigate the death of Affan Kurniawan, an ojol driver who died on August 28.

He claimed that this demonstration was not only attended by ojol drivers but also supported by student alliances, including BEM UI, and several ojol communities in various regions. Igun stated that the rally would continue until the evening with speeches at three main points.

"This is a grand protest, we will continue to voice our concerns until the government truly listens," he said.
