TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Strong winds from cyclone seeds 95B in the Malacca Strait, southeast of Aceh, and 92W in the northern part of the Philippines mainland north of North Sulawesi continue to affect the formation of high waves in Indonesian waters. To anticipate this, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for high waves valid from 26-29 November 2025.

Referring to a written statement on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, the winds in the northern part of Indonesia are moving from the northwest to the northeast at speeds of 6-30 knots. Meanwhile, winds in the southern region are blowing from the southwest at speeds of 6 to 25 knots. "The highest wind speed is observed in the western Indian Ocean off the Nias Islands," the BMKG warning reads.

High waves of 2.5-4 meters are likely to occur in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, then in the western Indian Ocean off the Nias Islands, where the wind conditions are strongest today. Similar conditions are also observed in waters west of Aceh and the Mentawai Islands, as well as in the west of Bengkulu and Lampung. These high waves are also detected south of Banten.

The BMKG team also reminds fishermen of medium waves with heights of 1.25-2.5 meters in the central part of the Malacca Strait and in several areas of the Karimata Strait, Bali Sea, Sumbawa Sea, and Sulawesi Sea. Sea waves may also rise in the southern regions of Java Island, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara. These waves are also present in areas bordering the Pacific Ocean around Maluku and Papua.

Regularly, the BMKG urges fishermen operating small boats to be wary of winds exceeding 15 knots and waves exceeding 1.25 meters. Tugboats should also pay attention when the wind speed exceeds 16 knots and the wave height exceeds 1.5 meters.

Ferry captains are advised to be cautious when the wind speed exceeds 21 knots and the wave height reaches 2.5 meters. Larger fleets, such as cargo ships and cruise ships, must monitor conditions when the wind speed exceeds 27 knots and the wave height is 4 meters.
