1. Sixteen Activists Join Syahdan Husein in Hunger Strike at Jakarta Police Detention Center
Sixteen activists detained at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police have launched a hunger strike to protest their detention over August 2025 mass demonstrations.
Among them is activist Syahdan Husein from the Gejayan Memanggil movement, who is believed to have initiated the action.
Fellow detainee Khariq Anhar, a student at the University of Riau, said the strike began on September 16 at Syahdan’s urging.
“We are tired of being detained. At Syahdan Husein’s initiative, we started the hunger strike,” Khariq wrote in an open letter shared on several civil society social media accounts on Thursday, September 18.
2. Indonesia Considers SOEs Ministry-Danantara Merger Amid Legislative Revisions
Indonesian Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi revealed that the government is considering merging the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) into the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara), though the plan is still under review.
“There is a possibility, but it is still in the process of review and discussion,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Friday.
The Gerindra Party politician noted that several factors are being weighed, including ongoing supervision and management improvement efforts led by Danantara.
3. Palace: Prabowo Never Agreed to Form Independent Probe Team for August Riots
Indonesia's State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi clarified that President Prabowo Subianto never agreed to the formation of an independent investigation team to probe the riots that broke out in late August 2025.
Prasetyo denied claims from the National Conscience Movement (Gerakan Nurani Bangsa, or GNB), which said Prabowo had agreed to such independent team formation during their meeting on Thursday, September 11.
According to him, the president only told GNB representatives that the investigation process was already underway.
“We need to make it clear that the president never expressed any intention to form, nor did he approve, the establishment of an investigation team,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday, September 19, 2025.
