TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tidal floods struck Jakarta's coastal areas on Friday, December 5, 2025. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that at least six residential areas and one road section were inundated as of 11:00 a.m. local time.
Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Data and Information Center at BPBD Jakarta, stated that the flooding was triggered by the combination of simultaneous natural phenomena.
"The tidal flood is influenced by the maximum high tide coinciding with the full moon and perigee, or supermoon," Yohan explained. This convergence caused a significant increase in the sea level along the northern coast of Jakarta, raising the Pasar Ikan Floodgate to Alert Level 1 since 8:00 a.m.
The inundation affected two primary administrative areas: the Thousand Islands and multiple points in North Jakarta.
In the Thousand Islands, water entered two residential areas in Pulau Panggang Village, reaching heights of 10 to 15 centimeters.
In North Jakarta, one residential area in Marunda Village and three residential areas in Pluit Village were affected, with water reaching up to 30 centimeters. Additionally, one road section, Jl. RE Martadinata (in front of the Jakarta International Stadium, Papanggo, Tanjung Priok), was submerged under up to 40 centimeters of water.
Yohan confirmed that BPBD personnel have been deployed to monitor the flooding's development and provide immediate assistance. They are coordinating closely with the Water Resources Agency, the Road Development Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency to ensure that pumping processes and waterways function normally. Local administrative officials are also involved in the effort.
"The inundation is targeted to subside quickly," Yohan said.
BPBD has prepared basic necessities for affected residents should they be required. Yohan urged the public to remain vigilant as the potential for tidal flooding is expected to continue until December 10, 2025, based on the early warning issued by the BMKG at the Tanjung Priok Maritime Meteorology Station.
"In case of an emergency, please immediately contact 112. The service is free and operates 24 hours," Yohan advised.
BPBD Jakarta provides regular updates on the inundation's status through the official Pusdalops channel, including their social media account, @bpbddkijakarta.
