TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance has confirmed that additional funds are ready for the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to address the impacts of recent floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the agency is still calculating the exact budget needed for emergency response.

“If the current funds are insufficient, we will review and provide more. The resources are ready,” Purbaya said during the inauguration of the Ministry of Finance’s Center for Education and Training (Pusdiklat) in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday, December 5, 2025. He did not provide the exact amount as final proposals from BNPB are still under review.

Currently, BNPB has a remaining budget of around Rp 500 billion to Rp 600 billion for emergency disaster management. The agency was allocated Rp 2.01 trillion for 2025, a significant decrease from Rp 4.92 trillion in 2024.

As of Thursday, December 4, 2025, BNPB reported that floods and landslides in the three provinces have claimed 836 lives and displaced tens of thousands of residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed.

Joint emergency teams continue evacuation efforts, search operations, and the reopening of roads while distributing aid to affected communities.

Chair of the House of Representatives’ Budget Committee, Said Abdullah, previously urged the government to mobilize all available resources to manage the disasters.

“The government can utilize the on-call funds in the 2025 State Budget, amounting to Rp4 trillion, for disaster response in Sumatra,” Said said, emphasizing that the support can cover both emergency operations and post-disaster recovery.

He added that the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra will require substantial multi-year funding, including 2026 and beyond.

Rehabilitation will focus on restoring essential public services such as hospitals, schools, government offices, places of worship, and basic infrastructure, while reconstruction will address roads, bridges, markets, and other facilities damaged by the disaster.

“The reconstruction budget needs will likely exceed the emergency response funds due to the scale of the damage,” Said said.
