TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Internet services across various countries, including Indonesia, experienced widespread disruption on Friday, December 5, 2025, after major internet infrastructure provider Cloudflare confirmed it was facing "internal service disruption."
The outage caused many users to encounter a '500 internal server error' message when attempting to access numerous websites. Even global service disruption monitoring platforms, such as Downdetector, were temporarily affected and inaccessible.
In Indonesia, user reports regarding Cloudflare's disruption fluctuated sharply, according to Downdetector's observations: there were 395 reports at 16:09 Jakarta time (WIB), decreasing to 275 reports by 16:18 WIB.
Recovery Underway, but Inconsistent
As reported by The Economic Times, Cloudflare subsequently announced that its services were beginning to recover. Major platforms such as Canva, LinkedIn, Quillbot, and Groww became accessible again, and Downdetector itself resumed functionality, allowing users to track further disruption reports.
However, the recovery was not uniform. Some entertainment and gaming services, including Crunchyroll and Fortnite, still had reported access issues from various users.
According to Cloudflare's official status page, the latest update indicated that scheduled maintenance was taking place at the DTW (Detroit) data center from 09:00 to 13:00 UTC (16:00–20:00 WIB). During this maintenance window, traffic was being redirected, which potentially caused increased latency in the affected regions.
Cloudflare also advised PNI/CNI customers to prepare for route diversion, as some network interfaces at the Detroit facility might be temporarily unavailable. The company stated that the main cause of the wider disruption was still under investigation.
