The Best Airplane Seats to Avoid Motion Sickness

2 days ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airplanes are one of the most popular ways to travel, either for international trips or domestic journeys. Time efficiency, cost, safety, and comfort are the reasons many people choose air travel over other modes of transportation.

However, not everyone feels comfortable traveling by airplane. Some may feel sick, nauseous, or dizzy when flying. An experienced flight attendant suggests avoiding sitting in the back of the plane to prevent sickness.

As reported by the Daily Mail, according to the flight attendant, turbulence is felt strongly at the back of the plane. It is best to avoid a seat in the back if you are prone to nausea. The best place to avoid nausea is in the cabin center, near the wings.

Additionally, choose a seat near the aisle. Speaking to Ocean Florida, a flight attendant from British Airways said a seat near the aisle could prevent anxiety due to height and make passengers move around easily.

Additionally, maximize the facilities around your seat. For example, use the air ventilation. The flight attendant advised to keep the air ventilation above the seat turned on. Cool air can reduce the risk of air sickness.

Entertainment facilities on the plane can also help distract attention if you feel nauseous or uncomfortable, such as watching television, movies, or music. Some airlines provide other audio programs for travelers experiencing motion sickness.

Meanwhile, another flight attendant revealed that the fifth row always turns out to be the best seats on the plane. According to Rosie Awad, who has been working at Virgin Australia for the past decade, the view from those seats is extraordinary.

She added to Tyla, passengers get extra legroom, no responsibility at the emergency exit, they can place their bag under the seat in front, it's close to getting off the plane, and it's one of the first rows to be served on the plane. Additionally, the worst seats are the last row or any seat next to the toilet.

Dr. Danielle Qing, an internal medicine specialist, said passengers should remain seated if they feel sick while flying because this will keep their center of gravity low. She advised the passengers to lean their heads and close their eyes. Lowering the center of gravity slightly can help reduce dizziness.

As reported by Fromar, Mount Sinai recommends avoiding things that can upset the stomach, such as alcoholic beverages and large, oily, or spicy foods, the day before traveling.

During the flight, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends limiting alcoholic and caffeinated drinks. Instead, drink plenty of water and choose simple snacks.
