TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of passengers of Super Air Jet destined for Padang were forced to wait for up to a dozen hours at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. This happened due to consecutive delays of flight IU-810 from Jakarta to Padang.
The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 1:05 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time), was first delayed to 6:10 PM WIB. Passengers accepted this decision as the airline is known for frequent delays.
However, tension began to rise when the departure schedule was changed again to 8:40 PM WIB. Passengers crowded around Gate E4, seeking clarity as there were no further announcements about the flight's status. "I was given Rp300,000 as compensation, but the departure time is still unclear," said one passenger, Seno, citing Antara news agency.
By 11:30 PM WIB, the passengers were informed that they would depart from Gate E5. They hurriedly moved to the new gate. However, shortly after forming a queue, the staff announced that the flight was canceled due to the closure of Minangkabau International Airport operations.
This situation sparked anger among the passengers who claimed to have been waiting for too long without any clarity. "I've been here since 10 AM and now it's delayed until morning. This is insane," said Mia, one of the passengers.
A similar sentiment was expressed by Fatima, a mother who wanted to return to visit her family affected by floods in Padang. She expressed extreme exhaustion and disappointment due to the lack of departure certainty.
The airport staff then promised that the passengers would be departed the next day, or Thursday, December 4, 2025 around 4:30 AM WIB and the passengers were given an additional compensation of Rp 300,000.
Based on Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 89 of 2015, airlines are obliged to compensate passengers for delays caused by airline management factors or non-technical operations (NTO).
This regulation covers the provision of drinks, snacks, meals, and a compensation of Rp300,000 for delays exceeding 240 minutes, flight redirection, or full ticket refunds in case of cancellation.
