TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Women's National Team players will take on Thailand, ranked 53rd in the world and the host team, in the first match of the women's football competition at SEA Games 2025 at Chonburi Stadium on Thursday night, December 4, 2025, starting at 18:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
The coach of the Indonesian Women's National Team, Akira Higashiyama, stated that his team is ready for the opening match. "We are very enthusiastic to participate in the SEA Games 2025. Especially because tomorrow we will face Thailand," said Akira during the pre-match press conference on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.
Garuda Pertiwi is strengthened by 23 players in the 2025 SEA Games, four of whom are diaspora players. These four players are Iris de Rouw (St. John's University - USA), Emily Nahon (Arkansas University - USA), Felicia de Zeeuw (ADO Den Haag - Netherlands), and Isa Warps (VFR Weyerbyen - Germany).
In addition to these four diaspora players, experienced names still populate the squad, such as Gea Yumanda, Safira Ika, Vivi Oktavia Riski, Zahra Muzdalifah, Helsya Maeisyaroh, Sheva Imut, and Claudia Scheunemann, who is currently pursuing a career in the Netherlands with FC Utrecht.
Meanwhile, central defender Vivi added that the team is ready to play in the 2025 SEA Games after undergoing intensive preparation over the last two months, including holding friendly matches on the FIFA Women's Matchday agenda against Nepal and Taiwan last week.
From the two friendly matches, Indonesia won 2-1 against Nepal, and suffered a heavy defeat of 0-5 against Taiwan. "We have been preparing for approximately two months. So far, everything has gone according to plan. Singapore and Thailand are strong teams. We hope to give our best," said the player from Mengkubang, Bangka Belitung.
Indonesia is grouped in Group A alongside Thailand and Singapore. After facing Thailand, Garuda Pertiwi will compete against Singapore on Sunday, December 7, at 16:00 WIB in the same stadium.
With only two groups in this sport, Garuda Pertiwi must secure a top two spot in the group stage to advance to the knockout phase, which begins with the semifinals.
The semifinal matches will be played on December 14, and the matches for the third place and the final will be held on December 17.
