TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Both Saudi Arabia and Turkey have expressed a unified stance in rejecting any plans to evacuate residents from Gaza. Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, stated on Friday that the Kingdom unequivocally opposes any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, regardless of the justification presented.
“We categorically reject the displacement of the Palestinian people from Gaza under any slogan,” Prince Faisal said in a press conference after the Gaza Contact Group meeting held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey.
He further condemned the framing of the plan as "voluntary migration," emphasizing that such terminology is unacceptable given the current dire circumstances in Gaza.
"The talk of voluntary migration cannot be accepted when Palestinians are deprived of the most basic necessities of life," he added.
Similarly, Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized on Friday, April 11, 2025, that there are no plans to relocate Palestinians from Gaza. As reported by Anadolu news agency, the most crucial priority is to urgently advocate for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Fidan stressed that any initiative to force Palestinians to leave their homeland is unacceptable.
"We reject all plans aimed at forcing Palestinians to abandon their homeland,” he said after the Gaza Contact Group meeting themed "Two-State Solution and Lasting Peace in the Middle East."
The meeting brought together foreign ministers from Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, and Indonesia. It also saw the participation of the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, alongside representatives from the United Arab Emirates, China, Russia, Ireland, Spain, Norway, Slovenia, Nigeria, and the European Union.
Minister Fidan reported that the Friday meeting primarily addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ongoing efforts to reinstate a ceasefire, and developments within the occupied territories. He highlighted concerns regarding escalating Israeli aggression and discussions on potential measures the international community could undertake to achieve lasting peace and a two-state solution.
"A lasting ceasefire must be established as soon as possible. We support the ceasefire initiative led by Qatar, Egypt, and the US," he affirmed.
He also underscored Turkey's support for the Gaza reconstruction plan endorsed by the Arab League. "We stand behind the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. We call on the international community to provide all possible support to achieve peace," Minister Fidan concluded.
U.S. President Donald Trump has previously proposed the relocation of 2.1 million Palestinians from Gaza, envisioning the territory's transformation into a 'Riviera.'
Prior to his departure for the Middle East, Indonesian President Prabowo also articulated his intention to evacuate 1,000 Gaza residents to Indonesia, seeking support for this initiative from five Middle Eastern nations: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.
