Prabowo's 2019 Warning of Impending War Is Proven, Palace Says

4 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, said President Prabowo Subianto's years-old warning about war is imminent.

Prabowo, during his 2019 presidential campaign, warned that Indonesia must be ready and stay vigilant against war, something experts at that time dismissed as being as far as 20 years into the future.

"During the debate, Prabowo said that as a nation, we must be prepared and vigilant at all times because war can strike at any time. But experts said there will be no war for the next 20 years," he said on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

According to Hasan, Prabowo's warning was simply met with laughter, admitting that even he found it difficult to believe war was brewing.

"I was not an expert in 2019, and maybe naive at that time, not believing that the world would go to war. Prabowo warned about it in 2019, and in 2022, Russia went to war with Ukraine. And it has not ended," he said.

India also recently launched missile strikes against Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025. The attack resulted in several explosions heard in various locations, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli in the disputed region.

The escalation of hostilities between the two nuclear-armed states began after an attack in the Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, India-controlled Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. A group of gunmen killed 26 people in the attack, most of them tourists, after separating them from the women.

India accused Pakistan of backing, arming, and training armed groups believed to be the source of unrest in the region. On the other hand, Pakistan insisted that they only provided moral and diplomatic support for the separatist movement in Kashmir.

Following last month's attack, India accused a group called The Resistance Front (TRF) of being the attackers, claiming that the group received support and protection from Pakistan.

Pakistan, although condemning the attack, strongly denied its involvement and requested a "transparent, credible, and impartial" investigation into the incident.

India, which had previously attacked Pakistan in 2016 and 2019 following attacks on its forces, announced that it would retaliate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India would pursue the perpetrators of the Kashmir attack "to the end of the world."

However, more than two weeks after the incident, Indian forces are still conducting searches in the forests of Kashmir to find the attackers, despite launching strikes on border areas.
