TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in London on Sunday, January 18, 2026, to begin a series of official visits aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnerships between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
Prabowo landed at London Stansted Airport, where he was welcomed by Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Mark Bevan, the UK Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative Adele Taylor MBE, Indonesian Ambassador to the UK Desra Percaya, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey, and Indonesia’s Defense Attaché to the UK, Wiyata S. Aji, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
During his visit, Prabowo is scheduled to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The meeting, planned for Monday, January 19, 2026, is expected to serve as a key moment to deepen bilateral dialogue and cooperation across a range of strategic sectors, the Secretariat said.
The Indonesian president is also set to hold an audience with King Charles III at St. James’s Palace, as part of a series of high-level diplomatic engagements between the two countries.
The Presidential Secretariat noted that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UK date back to December 1949 and have continued to develop. Cooperation between the two countries spans a broad range of priority areas, from economic cooperation to coordination on global issues.
“Both countries remain committed to expanding collaboration to address shared challenges in the future,” the statement said.
Indonesia and the UK have established a strategic partnership built on four main pillars: economic growth; climate, energy, and the environment; defense and security; and human and societal development.
Prabowo’s visit underscores Indonesia’s commitment to active diplomacy and to expanding international cooperation with tangible national benefits.
Before departing for London, Prabowo left Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta on Sunday.
He was seen off by several senior officials, including Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that following his UK visit, Prabowo will continue his trip to Switzerland, where he is scheduled to deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
