TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Eleven trains passing through PT KAI (Persero) Daerah Operasi 7 Madiun were temporarily halted on Tuesday morning, January 27, 2026, following an earthquake in Pacitan, East Java. The move was part of standard safety procedures to ensure track and bridge integrity.

“To ensure passenger safety, all trains stop after an earthquake so that tracks and bridges can be inspected before resuming service,” said Tohari, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daerah Operasi 7 Madiun.

Trains Affected by the Earthquake

Tohari listed the trains that were stopped:

  • Madiun Jaya (143B) – Madiun to Pasarsenen, stopped at Walikukun Station

  • Kahuripan (274) – Kiaracondong to Blitar, stopped at Walikukun Station

  • BIAS (576A) – Adi Soemarmo to Madiun, stopped at Madiun Station

  • Bangunkarta (161) – Jombang to Pasarsenen, stopped at Madiun Station

  • Gaya Baru Malam Selatan (89) – Surabaya Gubeng to Pasarsenen, stopped between Saradan and Caruban Stations

  • Sancaka (84B) – Yogyakarta to Surabaya Gubeng, stopped between Ngawi and Geneng Stations

  • Parcel Tengah (302) – Sukomoro to Baron, stopped mid-route

  • Commuter Line Dhoho (402) – stopped at Ngujang Station

Safety Measures After an Earthquake

According to Tohari, trains are instructed to stop simultaneously whenever an earthquake is felt. The train controller communicates the command via centralized radio to all locomotives.

Once the trains halt, officers from the Road and Bridge (JJ) Unit inspect the tracks and bridges to confirm they are safe for passage.

“After the inspection confirmed the tracks were safe, all trains resumed normal operations at 08:49 AM, continuing according to their scheduled routes,” Tohari said.
