TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police has asserted that anyone involved in drug offenses, including its own personnel, will face impartial legal action. The statement follows the arrest of South Tangerang Police Narcotics Unit Chief Adjunct Commissioner Pardiman, six of his subordinates, and an officer from the Aceh Regional Police by the Criminal Investigation Agency's (Bareskrim) Narcotics Directorate.
National Police Public Relations Division Chief Inspector General Johnny Edizzon Isir emphasized that the force does not tolerate any form of drug abuse, whether committed by civilians or officers. He stressed that the institution will offer no special treatment or impunity to personnel proven to be entangled in drug syndicates or related crimes.
"Police leadership has clearly guaranteed that there will be no impunity for officers involved in drug networks," Johnny said in a written statement on Monday, July 27, 2026, adding that the police force actually applies stricter scrutiny standards to its own members to protect the institution's integrity.
Investigators at Bareskrim's Narcotics Directorate are currently processing the legal proceedings against the eight officers. They are probing the case to fully uncover the alleged illicit activities, including the roles played by each individual. Meanwhile, internal inquiries into alleged professional ethics breaches will be handled by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Professionalism and Security Division (Bidpropam).
"The National Police ensures that the entire procedure, regarding both legal and ethical aspects, will be conducted professionally, transparently, and in strict compliance with applicable laws and regulations," Johnny said.
The National Police also pledged to keep the public fully informed of any developments in the ongoing investigation. According to Johnny, Bareskrim's Narcotics Directorate will detail the case construction, individual roles, and investigative findings through official statements.
"This is part of the National Police's commitment to upholding institutional accountability and public trust," Johnny said.
Earlier, a joint task force comprising Subdirectorate IV and the Narcotics Investigation Center (NIC) under Bareskrim's Narcotics Directorate arrested South Tangerang Police Narcotics Unit Chief Adjunct Commissioner Pardiman. Bareskrim Narcotics Directorate Director Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso confirmed the operation.
"Yes, a joint team from Subdirectorate IV and the NIC Task Force under Bareskrim's Narcotics Directorate, led by Senior Commander Handik Zusen and Senior Commander Kevin Leleury, has arrested the head of the South Tangerang Police Narcotics Unit," Eko stated in a written release on Monday.
Alongside Pardiman, the joint team took six members of the South Tangerang Police Narcotics Unit and one officer from the Aceh Regional Police into custody. "[The arrests] relate to drug trafficking, substance abuse, and the misuse of authority in drug law enforcement," Eko said.
