TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo met with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel at the National Police Headquarters on Thursday, July 23, 2026. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed bolstering bilateral cooperation to combat transnational crime.
Sigit noted that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has been collaborating with the FBI since 2014. This collaboration includes information sharing, human resource development, and operational support across various law enforcement initiatives. "International cooperation is a key factor in supporting law enforcement," the police chief said in a written statement on Thursday.
During the talks, Sigit and Patel addressed evolving threats, including the illicit trafficking of fentanyl and precursor chemicals, scam compound networks, and cyber-enabled fraud. They also discussed deepening joint investigative efforts, intelligence information exchange, and personnel capacity building through FBI-hosted training programs, including courses at the FBI Academy.
Furthermore, both agencies agreed to accelerate processing for individuals subject to Interpol Red Notices and reinforce cross-border law enforcement mechanisms. Sigit emphasized that robust international collaboration remains crucial in countering transnational criminals who increasingly exploit technological advances.
Prior joint efforts between the Indonesian National Police and the FBI also extended to investigating the alleged corruption case involving former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. In that case, the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) enlisted the FBI’s expertise to verify the authenticity of foreign currencies seized from Febrie's residence in Sentul, Bogor. The forensic examination was carried out to establish the authenticity of the physical evidence as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
