TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Patrick Kluivert has officially been dismissed as the coach of the Indonesian national team. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced his dismissal on the federation's official account on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
In their statement, PSSI said that they and the national team coaching staff had agreed to end the cooperation early through mutual termination. Previously, Kluivert was under a two-year contract.
The dismissal came after Kluivert failed to lead Indonesia to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Garuda squad was eliminated after losing to Saudi Arabia 2-3 and Iraq 0-1 in the fourth round of Group B qualifying matches this October.
"The termination of this cooperation is carried out with the agreement of both parties, taking into consideration the internal dynamics and the strategic direction of the national team development," PSSI wrote in its official statement on its website.
With the end of the cooperation, the coaching team under Patrick Kluivert will no longer handle the senior national team, the U-23 national team, or the U-20 national team.
At the same time, PSSI expressed appreciation for the contributions of all coaching staff members during their tenure. "This step is taken as part of a comprehensive evaluation of the national football development program," they said.
Patrick Kluivert was appointed as the head coach of the Indonesia national team on January 8, replacing South Korea's Shin Tae-yong, who was fired a few days earlier. The 49-year-old Dutch coach was initially under contract for two years, but the partnership was severed prematurely. The former Barcelona star managed a total of eight matches with the senior squad.
