TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission X, Habib Syarief Muhammad, assessed that the performance graph of the Indonesian national team did not show improvement during Patrick Kluivert's era. Hence, according to Habib, it is reasonable for the public to demand Kluivert's replacement.

"We see that there is no improvement in the graph, not only in the final event, when against China, when against them. Several times it showed no upward graph," said Habib at the DPR Building, Senayan area, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Meanwhile, in the era of Shin Tae-yong, Habib claimed that the national team's performance had improved. This lawmaker regrets Kluivert's failure. According to Habib, Kluivert has chemistry with the national team players.

"But it seems that, in my opinion, he has not yet found a way to motivate the players effectively," said Habib.

Furthermore, Habib also argued that Kluivert failed to bring a playing pattern against Asian teams. He also believes that Kluivert did not have enough time to form a solid team.

"Even though I cannot go against the current, I can see how strong the public desire is to replace Kluivert," said Habib. For him, Kluivert's dismissal is not about personal matters, but it is related to the nation's dignity.

Patrick Kluivert was appointed as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on January 8, replacing Shin Tae-yong from South Korea, who was fired a few days earlier. The 49-year-old Dutch coach was initially hired for a two-year contract. In total, the former Barcelona star handled eight senior team matches.

The dismissal came after Kluivert failed to lead Indonesia to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The Garuda squad was eliminated after losing to Saudi Arabia 2-3 and Iraq 0-1 in the fourth round of the Group B qualification stage in October.

According to Habib Syarief, the DPR's Commission X had supported Kluivert in training the national team, but was disappointed with the results. "A lot of capital has been spent, but the results do not match what has been sacrificed," he said.

Chair of DPR's Commission X, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, welcomed Patrick Kluivert's dismissal as the coach of the Indonesian national team. He requested that the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) immediately implement the prepared national football roadmap.

"Agree with the step taken by PSSI to address public concerns. Let's move on," Lalu said via a short message on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Lalu then urged PSSI to prepare the national team better. He emphasized that the sports commission is committed to overseeing the implementation of the national football roadmap.

The DPR's Commission X then handed the decision to replace Kluivert over to PSSI. "Please find the best option. PSSI understands the current situation better," said Lalu.

However, he hopes that PSSI can find a coach who is capable of translating the guidelines or blueprint and the targets set by PSSI.

PSSI announced the dismissal of Patrick Kluivert on the federation's official account on Thursday, October 16, 2025. In their statement, PSSI mentioned that they and the national team coaching staff had mutually agreed to terminate the cooperation earlier. Previously, they had a two-year working contract.
